Welcome to the Groupsite for the Central Birmingham Residents Association.

The Central Birmingham Residents Association Groupsite empowers our members to come together and make things happen. The CBRA groupsite is powered by and combines the most useful features of traditional websites, blogs, collaboration software and social networks.

This site is a public meeting place that provides members of Central Birmingham Residents Association with a shared calendar, discussion forums, member profiles, photo gallery, file storage and more. We encourage you to upload your photo, complete your profile and participate!

History Founded and incorporated in 1963, the Central Birmingham Residents Association (CBRA) first came together over concerns about commercial encroachment into the residential area. In May of 1975, the CBRA took on new vitality as schools (Baldwin School and Barnum Junior High) in the neighborhood were closed. The CBRA expressed the community's concerns in the subsequent reuses of the Barnum property and began a vigorous campaign to rezone blocks along the edge of the neighborhood from apartments back to single family zoning. "The success of this endeavor has formed the basis of the dramatic revitalization of the neighborhood in the last several years" (Bill Porter, President CBRA, May 1988).
Through the years, The CBRA has been active in conducting "Meet the Candidates Night" for city elections, addressing issues of concern to residents such as property tax assessments, zoning, traffic, noise and organizing social functions.
Today the CBRA represents 900 homeowners in the area bounded by: Maple Road, Southfield Road, Lincoln, and Woodward.
A key purpose of the CBRA is to provide a sense of community in our neighborhood. We promote the quality of life in the neighborhood and the city.

On behalf of the CBRA Board and the members - thanks for joining the site

Paul Reagan

President - CBRA
